Rise of the Ronin is an open-world Action RPG that was initially released exclusively for PlayStation in March 2024. But the period of exclusivity is now over. Rise of the Ronin is now also available for PC.

You play as a Ronin, similar to a Ninja, fighting your enemies in 19th-century Japan. The game is now finally available on PC as well, and you’ll find out everything about it here.
Release Date and Availability of Rise of the Ronin on PC
As briefly mentioned before, Rise of the Ronin was developed exclusively for PlayStation 5 and released in March 2024. This was due to an exclusive agreement with Sony, limited to only one year. The wait for PC gamers is now over, as Rise of the Ronin has been available for PC since March 11th.
The PC version of Rise of the Ronin supports DirectX 12, Ray Tracing and DLSS 3 (for Nvidia graphics cards), as well as FSR 3 (for AMD technology). This significantly enhances performance on high-end PCs. Additionally, textures and lighting have been considerably improved compared to the PlayStation 5 version.

If you buy the game before April 2, 2025, you’ll even get an early purchase bonus. This bonus is identical to the one previously available on PlayStation 5 and includes:
- Four combat styles:
- Hayabusa-ryu for Katana
- Hayabusa-ryu for Polearm
- Nioh-ryu for Katana
- Aisu Kage-ryu for Katana
- Iga Ninja Katana
- Iga Ninja Armor Set
Unfortunately, the game has not been fully optimized for Steam Deck. Performance-wise, it runs acceptably, but the controller layout has not been adjusted, and performance isn’t perfect. There haven’t been any official announcements yet, but hopefully, the developers will still improve Steam Deck compatibility.
Exclusive PC Features and Improvements
Since PCs don’t have the same limitations as consoles, Team Ninja (the developer of Rise of the Ronin) focused heavily on implementing native PC features in the PC port. There are many technical optimizations, especially for the extended viewing distance, detailed environments, and enhanced particle effects. Although these improvements require a high-performance PC, they make the game look spectacular.

An SSD, preferably a faster NVMe SSD, is recommended for the game. This significantly reduces loading times compared to the PlayStation 5 version, allowing for seamless transitions in the open world.
Here’s a list of new features exclusive to the Steam version of Rise of the Ronin:
- 8K resolution
- DirectX 12 Ultimate
- Ultra-wide & Super Ultra-wide support
- 120 FPS support
- Ray tracing support
- 3D audio
- Fully customizable controls
- AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) and NVIDIA DLSS & Reflex
- Mouse-optimized UI
- Intel XeSS support
Gameplay and Content of Rise of the Ronin
Rise of the Ronin takes place during a pivotal moment in Japanese history, specifically in the 19th century, during the Bakumatsu era (end of the Edo period). You’ll experience historical events such as the opening of Japan to the West and the decline of the Shogunate, along with many political intrigues.

You can form relationships with various NPCs during the game, unlocking new possibilities and changing story paths. Throughout your journey, you must frequently make decisions, which can have long-term consequences and even lead to multiple endings. These decisions often test your morality, forcing you to choose between saving lives and supporting your faction.
Now, let’s discuss the gameplay—specifically the combat system. Combat in Rise of the Ronin strongly resembles previous Team Ninja titles, such as Nioh and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. It features timing-based parries, dodging mechanics, and the possibility to combine multiple fighting styles (Katana, Naginata, firearms), offering strategic depth in gameplay.

However, you don’t always need to fight. Many scenarios offer the possibility to avoid combat by sneaking past enemies. You can also silently eliminate enemies, as is typical in stealth games. Thus, you’re free to approach situations loudly and brutally, or quietly and stealthily.
The world of Rise of the Ronin is an open world. You can explore it freely, discovering many side activities and locations, including Edo, Yokohama, and Kyoto. Using your grappling hook, you can reach rooftops, and capture your favorite moments with the photo mode.

Rise of the Ronin – Un portage PC très attendu

Conclusion : Une expérience samouraï parfaitement optimisée sur PC
